The Best Auckland Op Shops

Auckland Op Shops: Shopping From the Past, For the Future

Opportunity shopping as it was originally coined is a scene that is growing in New Zealand.  It is one of the best ways to find amazing shopping opportunities – it is literally in the name!

Auckland op shops are all around the city, and hitting them for a day is a great way to fill your day.  You can feel good about it too – being mindful both of your wallet and the environment.

Sometimes op shops deliver the goods whilst other days, they can be a total waste of time.

You may be surprised to learn that Auckland has a number of vintage thrift stores that actually sell clothing at high prices!  Likewise, you’ll find plenty of shops that offer bargains too.  The trick is knowing where to look and being clear about what you’re looking for.

In Auckland, if you don’t like what you find, simply head to the next store. Other places in New Zealand don’t have this luxury.

Or, you could be wise and head straight to the 10 best Auckland op shops that we cover off below!  They range from budget to high-end so there’s something for every vintage shopper.

But first, it’s important to know more about the op-shopping scene in NZ!

Why You Should Go Op-Shopping in Auckland

Op shopping is a great way to look after the environment and take part in sustainable practices. Thrift stores do a great job, providing affordable, quality products to those in need whilst helping reduce waste.

Lots of op shops also donate to charities and others provide heavily discounted items for those in need.

Whether you’re in it to be sustainable, are actively trying to reduce waste or are keen to give back, supporting local op shops will help you reach your goal.

Alternatively, you may find yourself sick of sorting through rack after rack of the same thing at your local mall.  If that’s the case,  op shops offer a range of unique pieces so you can express yourself in style.

Keen on trying op shopping? Auckland is a great place to do it!

Keeping the Cycle Going – Recycling Your Own Clothing

For vintage clothing shops in New Zealand to have items to sell, they first of all need to procure their stock.  For them, it’s not as easy as ordering in bulk clothing from cheap overseas suppliers!

Most suburbs in Auckland have multiple clothing recycling bins.  These go to second-hand stores or charities shops, where goods are then sold for a profit.

Some of the stores mentioned in this post are privately run stores, aimed at turning a profit for their owners (which we certainly don’t begrudge).  Whereas other stores exist to make donations to their chosen charity (which we think you’ll agree, is a lovely setup).

If you have something you no longer wear and want to get rid of it, you may like to swing past your local recycling depot or charity shop.

If you find yourself wanting to make a little extra money, you can also drop quality items directly to some of these second-hand stores, where they will either purchase your goods or sell on your behalf.

That’s right – it’s possible to both make money and save money by involving yourself in op-shopping!

These Are the 10 Best Auckland Op Shops – Grab Your Shopping Bags and Go!

Auckland is a thriving vintage clothing community.

In no particular order, these are 10 of the best second-hand Auckland clothes shops.

If shopping vintage is your jam, they’re not to be missed in the City of Sails!

1. Recycle Boutique

Recycle Boutique is one of the best mid-range vintage clothing brands in all of New Zealand.  Auckland is home to the big-daddy of stores but there are other stores throughout the country including Dunedin, Christchurch, Wellington and Queenstown.

It’s a great place to go if you’re wanting to pick up a unique, statement piece.  It also happens to be my favourite op shop in Auckland!

There are plenty of beautiful high-quality clothes to be found in this store.  Whilst visiting, you’ll want to keep an extra lookout for their sticker sales – it’s a surefire way to bag an extra special bargain.  Take your time and enjoy flicking your way through the racks – in my experience, you’ll almost always find something special at Recycle Boutique.

Pro Tip:  Recycle Boutique is a second-hand clothing store that sells on behalf.   So, if you have high-quality clothing that you would like to sell, then this is the place for you. They often only take branded clothing labels, so be mindful of that when you’re sorting your closet.

They are known for stocking clothing that will help you to make an impression (and really stand out) but also have plenty of everyday, wearable pieces.

As a bonus, the clothes are also well organised and it is easy to find what you are looking for.

All of this makes a visit to Tatty’s a real pleasure.
