Your adventure starts from Awakeri (just outside of Whakatāne), travelling at a leisurely 25 kilometres per hour with family and friends along this historic railway line. With 4 bridges, numerous cuttings and bush scenes along the track, this is a uniquely Kiwi activity!

We recommend the bush walk and snack run. This 2.5-hour trip includes a beautiful bush walk, track-side snack and farm animal feeding. The bushwalk is gentle and those with mobility limitations can easily be catered to.
Or, if you’d prefer, the chicken run is especially good for young families. Feeding the ducks and the geese is a real highlight in addition to the train cart ride.
