How to get to Orakei Korako
From Rotorua
From Rotorua, travel down State Highway 5. The turnoff to Orakei Korako is 3km south of Golden Springs. Turn right onto Tutukau Rd, travel 16 kms then turn right onto Orakei Korako Rd. Travel 5kms to the end of the road.
The approximate driving time from Rotorua is 45 minutes.
From Taupō
From Taupō, head north on State Highway 1, in the direction of Hamilton. The turnoff to Orakei Korako is 14 kms from the junction of State Highways 1 and 5 at Wairakei. Turn right onto Tutukau Rd, travel 9 kms then turn left onto Orakei Korako Rd. Travel 5kms to the end of the road.
The approximate driving time from Taupo is just 25 minutes.
Frequently asked questions about Orakei Korako
The boats do not run on a timetable. Instead, they leave on request throughout the day. Departures start from 8 am, with the last sailing at 4 pm.
Yes, the cost of your return boat ride is included in the entry price.
Most visitors choose to spend 1 to 2 hours, but it’s very possible to spend longer!
