There’s something a little different about our newest eco-camping setup though… this one is run by the Auckland Council and it’s an absolute bargain!
Haere Mai Piwakawaka: Meet Auckland’s Most Affordable Glamping
Named after New Zealand’s native fantail (the piwakawaka), you’ll find this new eco-friendly glamping tent beside the Puhoi Revier within the Wenderholm Regional Park.
Suitable for year-round camping, this affordable setup can accommodate up to 4 people. It comes complete with a proper queen-sized bed, two bunk beds, a barbecue and also a gas hob kettle.
Beside the tent, you’ll also find a solar shower and a compositing toilet.
Where else can you stay with up to four others in a furnished glamping tent right on the water from only $150 a night?
That’s just a touch over $35 each. What a bargain!
How Much Does a Stay at Piwakawaka Cost?
Each stay is based on a flat fee per night – it is charged regardless of how many guests you book in.

Important Information About Staying at Piwakawaka
Maximum Stay
Guests are able to stay for a maximum of 7 nights. There is a minimum stay of only 1 night.
Timings
Check-in is from 2 pm, whilst check-out is required by 11 am.
What Do I Need to Supply for My Stay?
In a bid to keep costs down, visitors are required to bring a fair bit of their own gear, but we think that’s a small price to pay.
Be sure to pack the following items as you require them:
- chilly bin
- pots and pans
- cooking utentils
- cutlery and crockery
- linen (including pillows)
- towels.
Of course, that is in addition to all of your personal items, toiletries and creature comforts.
