A New Zealand registered nurse, Deena offers virtual supervision of RAT tests. This allows travellers to be tested easily and quickly within the 24-hour travel window, all from the comfort of their home or hotel room.

We performed out tests in front of Deena via Zoom and once completed and negative the certificates were sent to us straight away. The real bonus was being able to do these again in San Francisco to return home with Deena online. Very easy, efficient and an excellent service. This took all the stress out of what can be a daunting task to complete prior to travel.

Do I Need a Pre-Departure RAT test to Fly into New Zealand?

As of May 1, 2022

No Pre-Departure Tests Required

You do not need a pre-departure test to enter NZ from:

  • American Samoa
  • Cook Islands
  • Federated States of Micronesia
  • Fiji
  • Kiribati
  • Marshall Islands
  • Nauru
  • Niue
  • Samoa
  • Solomons
  • Tokelau
  • Tonga
  • Tuvalu
  • Vanuatu.

The only exception is if you enter another country on the way for longer than 72 hours.

Pre-Departure Tests Required

You will likely require a negative COVID test if you are travelling from:

  • Africa
  • Antarctica
  • Asia
  • Australia
  • Europe
  • UK
  • North America
  • South America

These countries all accept virtually-supervised RAT tests.

To be certain, we suggest you double-check before you travel that a virtual (telehealth) RAT test is acceptable for entry to New Zealand.

If you plan to use your telehealth supervised RAT test to travel abroad, we suggest confirming with the government of the country to which you are travelling.

What Types of COVID Tests are Acceptable for Travel to Aotearoa New Zealand?

The New Zealand Government states that most travellers entering New Zealand must provide evidence of a negative COVID-19 result from one of these tests:

  • a PCR test, carried out no more than 48 hours before the scheduled departure of your first international flight to NZ, or
  • a supervised rapid antigen test (RAT) administered no more than 24 hours before the scheduled departure of your first international flight to New Zealand [this is what we recommend, due to the ease of virtual testing], or
  • a supervised loop-mediated isothermal amplification (LAMP) test, carried out no more than 24 hours before the scheduled departure of your first international flight to New Zealand.

If you have been vaccinated for COVID-19, or are self-testing on arrival, you are still required to pre-test.

Will my Test be Accepted by the Airport?

Ultimately you are responsible for arranging a test that meets the requirements of the government.

It is important to know that free tests from community testing stations are unlikely to meet the supervision requirements.

Deena’s supervised tests, however, are safe for travel to New Zealand and are also accepted by many other countries.

What Do I Need to be Provided With?

You will need to have your own RAT ready to use. You will then arrange a time with Deena to have her virtually supervise you taking the test (and the time until the results come through).

Once she has seen a legitimate negative result, you will be given a PDF document that states, as per government requirements:

  • your full name
  • your date of birth or passport number
  • the type of test you took – a RAT
  • the date and time of the test
  • the test result – confirming that it was negative
  • the name of your registered nurse who supervised the test (Deena), including a or stamp confirming the supervisor’s name, occupation and telehealth service.

This information will be sent to you quickly via email, allowing you to continue packing without a worry.

Airports accept both printed and digital copies of your COVID-free documentation so there is no need to print the letter you receive from Deena.

Deena provides a convenient, efficient and excellent service to ensure you meet the travel criteria of having a Supervised R.A.T.S Covid test. It’s available anytime you require and in the comfort of your own home. I was unsure how, when or where, we were going to do ours because we were due to fly out on ANZAC day and nothing was open in Whangarei. Deena solved that and we were able to conduct our test, stress-free. Thank you for offering this service at a really great cost compared to others who just take advantage of ppl traveling. I highly recommend Deena’s services and give  a 10/10 A+ rating. Thank you and appreciate your assistance.
