Te Pā Tū shares Māori history, traditions, and cultural aspirations across 4 wonderful hours of celebration and feasting.

Enjoy traditional waiata (song), haka, poi and dance, with the opportunity to get involved and learn from the pros. The passion and mana that each performer has will send chills down your spine!

Don’t let the weather put you off either, as Te Pā Tū are well prepared for all eventualities. If the weather is clear, you’ll head into the bush to experience performances in the forest, as they were presented centuries ago. If the rain sets in, the beautiful meeting house stands in perfectly, keeping guests warm and dry.

Food at Te Pā Tū

Kai is a significant part of Māori culture, so no experience would be complete without the opportunity to sample some amazing food. With trained, experienced chefs, the Te Pā Tā team create menus (and experiences) to reflect each different season, ensuring your kai is aligned to the Māori lunar calendar.

You’ll be welcomed with seasonal kai horotai (delicacies), including the likes of:

  • roasted tuna (native eel)
  • creamy pāua (abalone) on rewena (bread) crostini
  • foraged greens
  • chunky smoked kahawai
  • ember warmed kūmara
  • restorative kawakawa tea.
Fried meat cubes with a small edible plant sprinkled with salt.

Dinner itself is a lavish but relaxed experience for manuhiri (guests). You’ll have the opportunity to sample a traditionally-cooked hāngī, served with other lesser-known Māori cuisines, all of which are prepared fusion-style.

Wagyu pincanha, watercress chimichurri, taro gratin – even kumara ice cream – each dish is inspired by or infused with traditional ingredients, stories, or cooking techniques. And most importantly, each and every dish is delicious!
